Purdue University Northwest (PNW) Associate Professor of Nursing Dr. Julia Rogers has been honored with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners’ (AANP) 2025 Award for Outstanding Contributions in the state of Indiana. This distinguished accolade celebrates nurse practitioners (NPs) who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and advocacy in advancing the NP profession at the state level.
AANP’s State Award for Outstanding Contributions is reserved for trailblazing professionals who excel in leadership, education, research, and community impact—all areas where Dr. Rogers has made an indelible mark. Honorees are recognized for their commitment to evidence-based practice, mentorship, strategic partnerships, and advocacy to strengthen the role of NPs in healthcare.
A Legacy of Innovation in NP Education and Practice
“This recognition from AANP is both humbling and energizing,” said Rogers. “As nurse practitioners continue to play an increasingly vital role in health care delivery, it is crucial that we embrace innovative educational approaches and technology to prepare the next generation of NPs. Being an associate professor and maintaining an active clinical practice allows me to elevate both NP education and patient care outcomes. My goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding and better retention of complex concepts so they are able to deliver excellent care to patients and their families. Dr. Rogers’ contributions extend beyond the classroom and clinical setting. As Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP
) Program Coordinator and a pulmonary/critical care nurse practitioner, she seamlessly bridges academia with hands-on patient care, ensuring that future NPs are prepared to meet the evolving challenges of healthcare.
A National Impact: Research, Innovation, and Mentorship
Rogers has made groundbreaking strides in NP education, particularly in advanced pathophysiology and technology-driven learning. Her research in 3D visualization tools for teaching complex medical concepts has transformed how nursing students retain critical knowledge. Additionally, she is the creator and host of the NP POW (Pearls of Wisdom) video-podcast series, a widely respected platform providing clinical practice insights and professional development to over 75,000 NPs nationwide.

A leader in evidence-based nursing education, Rogers has authored key textbooks, including the ninth edition of McCance & Huether’s Pathophysiology: The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults and Children and The 3P’s for Advanced Healthcare Providers: Pathophysiology, Physical Assessment, and Pharmacology.

AANP annually recognizes one outstanding nurse practitioner in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia for their dedication to the profession.
