In a world where compassion and dedication can transform a patient’s experience, two exceptional Holy Cross Health
nurses—Devyn Losco, RN, and Nicole Hedges, RN—have been honored as Nurses of the Week for their outstanding care and the DAISY Award, a national recognition celebrating extraordinary nurses.
Both women exemplify what it means to go above and beyond, turning routine care into life-changing connections.
A Godsend in the Room: Devyn Losco, RN
Described by a grateful family member as “an angel of a nurse” and a “godsend,” Devyn Losco made a lasting impact on a 91-year-old patient and her loved ones. Losco ensured clinical excellence and brought warmth and grace into the room, raising spirits and easing fears with her smile and upbeat attitude.
“She was respectful, patient, and diligent and did an excellent job keeping the family informed. Her upbeat attitude and smiling face helped raise spirits and calm nerves,” the nominator shared.
In a testament to her dedication, Losco rescheduled her days off to continue caring for the same patient, ensuring her environment stayed clean, organized, and comforting. It’s this kind of selflessness and devotion that sets her apart.
A Guiding Light in the ICU: Nicole Hedges, RN
For Nicole Hedges, nursing is more than a job—it’s a calling to teach, inspire, and lead. Nominated by a fellow associate she was mentoring in the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), Hedges was praised for her patience, clarity, and innate ability to empower those around her.
“Patients adore her, lighting up whenever she enters the room,” said her nominator, who described how Hedges takes the time to explain complex procedures with calm and clarity. Her gift for spotting subtle changes in patients’ conditions underscores her clinical expertise, while her gentle demeanor makes patients feel safe and deeply cared for.
Honoring Excellence in Compassionate Care
At Holy Cross Health, the DAISY Award honors nurses who deliver extraordinary care that embodies the hospital’s mission and values. Nominations can come from anyone—a patient, family member, physician, or fellow nurse—and are judged anonymously by an internal committee.
As DAISY Award recipients, Losco and Hedges received a certificate, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch sculpture from Zimbabwe, a congratulatory banner to display in their units, and cinnamon rolls—a sweet thank-you for their care and kindness. They also gain access to continued education and wellness resources as part of the national DAISY community.
Why These Nurses Stand Out
Both Losco and Hedges exemplify nursing at its finest—not just healing bodies but lifting spirits, mentoring others, and leading with heart. Whether staying past a shift to comfort a patient or guiding a new nurse with patience and grace, they remind us all why the nursing profession is one of humanity’s highest callings.
Their stories are a powerful reminder that behind every great nurse is a heart full of compassion—and that’s what truly makes a difference.
Congratulations to Devyn Losco, RN, and Nicole Hedges, RN—your light shines far beyond the hospital walls.
