For LuAnn and Joslinn Mill, nursing is not just a profession but a family legacy grounded in compassion, commitment, and heart. This inspiring mother-daughter duo, pediatric nurses at Children’s Nebraska’s Criss Heart Center
in Omaha, Nebraska, has been recognized as the Nurses of the Week for their unwavering dedication to pediatric cardiology and unique bond beyond the workplace.
A Legacy of Care and Compassion
LuAnn Mill’s journey in nursing has spanned nearly two decades at Children’s Nebraska, where she has served since 2006. As a Cardiology Clinic Registered Nurse specializing in electrophysiology, LuAnn plays a critical role in supporting young patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). Her expertise and calm demeanor have been a source of comfort for countless families navigating complex heart conditions.
Before joining the Criss Heart Center, LuAnn spent eight years honing her skills in high-pressure situations as a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) nurse at Nebraska Medicine. However, LuAnn’s ability to build meaningful connections with patients and their families sets her apart.
A Daughter Inspired to Follow in Her Mother’s Footsteps
For Joslinn Mill, nursing wasn’t just a career choice but a calling inspired by the example set right at home. As a young girl, Joslinn watched her mother guide families through challenging moments with empathy and strength. That influence eventually led her to Children’s Nebraska, first as a certified nursing assistant (CNA) in the Cardiac Care Unit and later as a Registered Nurse after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Creighton University in 2023.
“I’ve always been drawn to pediatrics, and seeing my mom talk parents through their child’s care made me want to build bonds of my own with patients and families in a similar way,” Joslinn reflected. “Pediatrics is unique in that way—you have to tailor education to the child and the adults.”
Currently, Joslinn is furthering her commitment to pediatric care by pursuing an advanced degree at Creighton University. Her goal is to become a pediatric nurse practitioner in primary and acute care.
Double the Dedication, Double the Heart
The synergy between LuAnn and Joslinn extends beyond their familial ties. Together, they bring a blend of seasoned expertise and fresh perspective to Children’s Nebraska, providing comprehensive care that’s both technically skilled and deeply personal.
Their colleagues often note the duo’s seamless teamwork and the infectious positivity they bring to the unit. This dynamic not only strengthens their bond but also enhances patient care.
“I have proud mama moments at the hospital all the time,” LuAnn said. “Many cardiologists will say to me, ‘I saw your daughter today,’ and they’ll compliment what a great nurse she is. Joslinn is amazing and so smart. It makes me very proud.”
Why They Deserve This Honor
LuAnn and Joslinn Mill exemplify what it means to be a nurse: dedication, empathy, and a relentless commitment to improving the lives of their patients. Their unique journey as a mother-daughter team in a highly specialized field highlights the profound impact that personal connection can have in healthcare.
