Two years after its groundbreaking debut, the Emergency Nurses Association’s (ENA)
Emergency Nurse Residency Program (ENRP) has impacted 70 emergency departments nationwide. The program now reaches new heights with enhancements designed to empower further and support emergency department (ED) nurses.
The ENRP remains steadfast in its mission: providing critical education and resources for academic nurses and those transitioning from non-emergency settings to sharpen their clinical judgment, decision-making, and sociocultural adaptation to the fast-paced ED environment.
Launched in October, the updates introduce expanded content that addresses key clinical challenges, incorporates best practices, and emphasizes the dynamics of teamwork. These enhancements aim to bolster ED nurse retention and satisfaction, improve patient outcomes, and offer additional support for nurse educators.
“Created for emergency nurses by emergency nurses, ENRP has proven itself invaluable in emergency departments across the country since 2022,” says ENA President Chris Dellinger, MBA, BSN, RN, FAEN. “It strengthens teams by reducing new nurse turnover, developing clinical skills, and ensuring emergency nurses thrive individually and as integral members of the care team in the high-pressure ED setting.”
Feedback from a study of 275 ENRP participants highlights the program’s effectiveness. The majority reported increased preparedness to navigate the clinical demands and stressors of emergency nursing.
“ED staffing levels and burnout remain constant concerns in every emergency department. ENRP has made great strides to help alleviate those struggles by developing confident nurses and strong EDs committed to their future,” Dellinger adds.
